Duct Tape Tower
In this activity, after we went over the basic information for POE, we reviewed the Design Process. We were then asked by our teacher to get into groups of 4 or 5 students and build a duct tape tower using the Design Process. Below is a link to the Design Process. Below the link to the Design Process is a image of the Lesson 1.1.1 notes.

Activity 1.1.1a - Simple Machines - Lever
In this activity, our teacher tasked us to get into groups of 3 or 4 and within those groups make a simple machine and do the calculations for said simple machine. My group created a 1st class, 2nd class, and 3rd class lever. We also sketched out the design for our simple machine before actually building the mechanisms. Below are a picture of the simple machine along with calculations and conclusion questions.
This PDF file includes the sketches for the first, second, and third class lever along with the conclusion questions which have been answered. Unfortunately, we miscalculated the second class lever's effort force so instead of being 1.352 newtons which would give the mechanism an efficiency of 214%, the effort force is 2.891 newtons would gives the mechanism an efficiency of 100%.

The image above is the first class lever and the third class lever without the effort force. With the first class lever, the effort force would be applied at the other end of the lever where my hand is and with the third class lever, the effort force would be located at the middle point between the fulcrum and the resistance force. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the second class lever, but it would be that the effort force would be where the resistance force is in the picture above and the resistance force would be located at the middle point between the fulcrum and the effort force.
