Discussion Questions
1. For which mechanism was it the easiest to determine the mechanical advantage or drive ratio? Why was it the easiest? It was easiest to determine the drive ratio because all we had to do was count the number of gears.
2. For which mechanism was it the most difficult to determine the mechanical advantage or drive ratio? Why was it the most difficult? It was most difficult to determine the mechanical advantage of the lever because I had to measure the distance.
3. At what value would you estimate the input and output forces of your compound machine? How did you arrive at your estimated values? I would estimated the forces of my compound machine using the moment equation. However, I cannot correctly estimate the input and output forces of my compound machine since I didn't measure it. However if I had to assume I'd estimate that it would be the force of a human hand.
4. What modifications could you make to your compound machine to make it more mechanically efficient? I would make it more efficient by making the wheel a different size than the axle.
