Activity 1.9 Design Innovation Presentation
Below is a link to my presentation in relation to Activity 1.9. In Activity 1.9, we got in pairs and we looked up the history of inventions, how they've changed over the years and how they impact our environment. My partner and I made a presentation on the 3D printer because not only is it a cool invention but it is also an invention that we knew virtually nothing about. Throughout the presentation, you'll see the life of the 3D printer, examples of 3D printing and at the very end; cited sources that can tell you even more about 3D printing. Below you will find the intro video for Activity 1.9, the questions that I was required to answer, my answers to the questions that helped me further my research on the 3D printer which in turn helped me finish my presentation, the inventions that we had to choose from to do our project on, and the conclusion questions for the project.

Answers
b. The 3D printer addressed the need to easily make complex models, tools and technology without the use of natural materials. It also addressed to need for companies make mass quantities of tools or products for a low price; which aided by the ability to tweak the tool at any time.
g. The improvements that have been made to the 3D printer are that companies like Microsoft and Google have enabled their hardware to perform 3D scanning, the creation of free open source software like Tinkercad that's free to everyone and the fact that 3D printing can be used to make advancements in almost every industry.
h. These improvements were made so that 3D printing might be easier to use and accessible to everyone so that more advancements can be made through 3D printing.
j. The global impact on society of the 3D printer and its innovations is that it has helped reserve natural resources, that it can print using many different materials, that do-it-yourself kits that allow a person to build their own 3D printer have been made, and that, like stated before, it can make advanced in almost every industry of life. Examples of this are that it can be used to help save lives by producing human body parts, that it can be used to manufacture industrial parts, and that many different objects can be made with 3D printers ranging from cars to engagement rings to the world's first zero-gravity 3D printer in space.
k. If I had the ability to change this product in any way, I would change it so that it could create objects with all kinds of materials like rubber or cotton.

Conclusion Questions
1. Define and differentiate invention and a innovation. An invention is any product or idea that has been originally made meaning that no idea similar to it has been made before it's creation. An innovation is when a person or thing takes a preexisting invention and updates something about it.
2. What were the major factors that contributed to past innovations of the invention that you researched? Major factors that contributed to past innovations of the invention that I researched are the increasing needs of the general public, increased availability to materials that could be used to build three dimensional printers and that could be used inside of three printers and the growing popularity of three dimensional printing which pushed companies to innovate so that there version would still be considered valuable and not just another three dimensional printer.
3. How has the pace of development changed through the history of the design? Through the history of the three dimensional printer's design the pace of development has been steadily increasing as more advancements have been made both in and out of three dimensional printing.
4. What future innovations to the chosen invention do you predict? I predict that in the future, innovations will to the three dimensional printer so that it could printer with almost every available material, be used to make almost everything and can be used to replicate entire humans like with Star Trek.
